23CREATIVE - mix tapes

I thought I would share some old mix tapes that I done.. ummm kinda ropey at times, but.. full of energy. I am not a professional mixer at all, I just muck around with sounds, and love listening to what I hear on a daily basis.. Anyway these are tapes i done between june - september 07 have a go and listen , and download via the "Div share" logo.

"Bigstereo"
Bigstereo is a mashy dirty big beat love hate/love affair with crowded carparks with meaty men .. and fearsome electro women.

"IF....."
Is getting stoned in a room with bi fold doors to the open garden.. and some twit harping on about the seminal movie.

"Music From Buildings"

Music From Buildings.. is taking some weird drugs in a taxi that will never ever get you to the building that you saw once, (just once)

Music From Buildings.. 23creative mix tape

I found this on the wonderful 2o jazz funk greats blog.. I know little about this band, but they have a myspace page here . This is a great great mix, of FAN DEATH - jealousy. I really love this mix soo much.. give it time... head over to 20jazzfunkgreats for more info.

CRACK Magazine

Just got news that my artwork is in a new magazine , available in the Bristol area (u.k) for a short period of time, I am off to the launch party on AUG 14th . Anyway, look out for it .. it is called "CRACK" ... more news as I hear it, soon.

Beanfield - Tides (C'S MOVEMENT 1)Download below

No reason for this video.. apart from it is balshy, random, not that good, but has a swagger about it.
And I am a sucker for a "BLEEP BLEEP" .

Well I am back after a very very good birthday, and an odd couple of days after; with a video and a Goldenbug remix of Delphic - This Momentary. The main reason I put on the video is that I am soo fascinated with how Chernobyl looks now.. I have a morbid curiousity of post apocalytic themes .. and this video shows some very nice images. The song is ok, and the remix is not that bad either :)

Video and download below:

BIRTHDAY BOY

Birthday, so no posts, and maybe no post tomorrow. I am sure that there is a pub with my name on it.

Faux Pas - Roses lament

This is just so special, that you have to pinch yourself. Is this what I think it is?
UMMM yes it is, tre fantastique!
Catherine Ferroyer-Blanchard first came to my attention with her work with
satanicpornocultshop.
Her website sells original C90 cassettes I urge you to buy them.
( and to be honest i dont like the pornoshop versions.. (shh dont tell anyone)

I have included mp3's as well .. be careful though, dont just download for the sake of it,
she is a national triumph (well a french one)

video and downloads below.

Catherine ferroyer blanchard - tu fais le malin scaldes (precious curio mix)

Catherine ferroyer blanchard - chanson damour (dessous chics remix)

This is a great video from a WHOMADEWHO. I actually was frantic that I could not find this, as I last watched it on a concoction, of cider and "Hummers" and I just kept on thinking, who is this man?? then the title came back to me "keep me in my plane" .. then googled that phrase and found it!! hooorah! (recalls are brilliant aren't they?)
Anyway.. just check out this wonderful video, it actually has a narrative, and a fine sound to boot! I wanna see and hear more.. if i find some mixes , there are surely to follow. Videos below.

Chicks on speed video WHOMADEWHO - This Train

White lies are an okish band, in my opinion..but this is a great single..( on a ok but bleak album) I have never really got into their sub Ian Curtis vibe. But! Crystal Casttles on the other hand I love, So what way to bring a drab song to life and get the excuse to post it on here? you guessed it, video below.

Kathy Acker

Those who know me ... know that my favourite book of all time is "Blood and Guts In High School" by Kathy Acker. It has remained (very tatty, but intact) with me to this day, and even tho I have only read it three times, I can still feel the pain, the panic, and the anger that she wrote soo well, the book is not an easy read, the writing is very chaotic, and at times undecypherable! Anyway the reason for this post, is that I found this video yesterday, and have never seen it before, It is great. Try and get "blood and guts" it is a true great. Also I have a plea, to anyone reading this blog, Does anyone have have " The South Bank show" with Kathy Acker? was made I think in 1984? If so.. I would be so happy.
Video below.

The brilliant Charles Bukowski, whose work I have admired since my late teens. He has this great writing style that makes you laugh at yourselves, and at others, and ultimately, not worry about your future that much, as as long as you have a woman, and a whiskey, you will be fine.. Though we all know this is not the case, it is still great to find a place in your life, to be a romantic, even though Bukowski's work may seem bleak, I feel it is not, at all.. It is very funny, insightful.. and is romantic.. honestly.

There have been a few movies made "tales of ordinary madness" "factotum" (which is just brilliant), and "barfly"

I Could write more.. but I could never give him enough justice, some links below.

BEEN LAZY - no neww posts till Monday

Hi.. been busy starting a new project, which i will divulge at some point, so have been a tad lazy. I will presume posting status on Monday. Have a Great weekend, and for all you lot that are going to the "People's international picnic at ashton court" lets hope the weather holds out for you.

BLAMMA BLAMMA! - carry me home

Completely nuts, and a floor filler... quite wonderful with the cuts, blamma indeed! there is a great moment when she sings .. just on the beat (but goes down to 4/5 instead of 4/4). which is quite clever.
long time favourite, and classic choon .. after maybe a year i still cannot stop playing this.. it is uplifting and morose at the same time .. it lifts you up then brings you down to a great place.. with great editing, and young nubile men, this is great (and i may post again, only because , i cannot get enough of this)

Download " if I know you" below

The summer just gets better and better, indulge me.. i am in a stereolab mood , and why not? this smacks of drugs and sunshine.. hoola hoolah! download below and I think i maybe in copyrite.... but...... territory , who cares? share music and you will buy the album..ping pong below. :)

stereolab - ping pong

To add to the summer bliss I give you my favourite band

A long time coming but just as sweet.. some free design for you.. can you ever tire of this? me thinks not.. take in the breeze, feel the sun on your hair, and relax into the free design
I know it is another commercial, and I have promised myself not to be sucked in with wizzzy ads, but this is just soo clever, a lot of new directors, and artists cut their teeth with doing adverts, to pay the rent, but every now and again, they come up with something that amuses, and makes ya giggle. I really love the edit in this.. go on, spoil yaself it is actually funny.

When I was an art student, back in 1986, we went on a field trip to the TATE gallery, and at this young and silly age .. I thought all modern art, was either crap, or overrated. I eventually learned how to enjoy post modern art, and treat it as a statement, an ideology, rather than "someone trying to show off" or worse "my niece could paint better than that" (makes me cringe even now thinking like that).

Back to 1986, and I found myself in the Mark Rothko room, and I sat there, looking at these quite formidable paintings, feeling a sense of calm, and contentment, my art tutor then found me and exclaimed "ooh you found the Rothko's I knew that you would"
She then told me about the canvas being just the center of a bigger picture, and that the paintings, are a window that draws you in .. and they do! they have this hypnotic feeling, that you cannot put into words. Famously, his Seagram paintings made people feel ill. This is all powerful stuff indeed. Try and see some Rothko before you die, that will be on my tombstone.

I am one huge fan of Banky's work (and always have been), and I am lucky enough to live in Bristol, his old stomping ground.
There are a few of his works around the city, and I wish there was more, but luckily, he has an exhibition At the Bristol museum called "Banksy Versus Bristol Museum" running until August 31st, it is free to get in as well. I went on the first day, after queuing for an hour, and be warned, there are long queues, so try and go early in the morning.

The exhibition is soo brilliant, I find his work, funny, wry, sarcastic, and infuriating.. but always a pleasure to see. I hope this free exhibition is a leap forward to maybe getting some Banksy work for a cheaper price than the hefty wads you have to spend to buy one recently. His website, gives away free downloads, saying please dont set up a shop. So maybe he might do a "basics" line in the future?? who knows. Go and see this, it is smashing.

SODA POP KID - matmod redux

This quite random so i apologise in advance. This is a band called Nautical William, that I used to work for as a graphic designer/set designer.

To get why this was important (musically) you have to understand that pop music in the early 90's was quite shoddy, it was the aftermath of madchester, and the invasion of boyzone etc.. (quite scary)

Anyway, this is just an indulgent post, because I really enjoyed working with this band, we had some great gigs, and even a few good headliners.. ashton court festival, headlined on a sunday night, 1992, mother earth supported em once, mother earth is another story.. maybe i can find some good vids of em. So Nauutical William, and just one other band called "The Moonflowers" had the trippy funk circut all to themselves. Like i say , this is just a wee indulgence (and by the way, i made the gold hand)

BLACK SUN PRODUCTIONS - Brothel Tango

Absolutely superb.. it is beyond any skin i have ever lived in. More , and More is needed Check em out here:
Just when you forget that you was (no you seriously was) a goth.. back in the day.. as in 1982-1985..
batcave is back!!!
For all you youngsters, that was not there originally, The Batcave was a groundbreaking electronic/goth club that was .. to be honest bloody fun! various other club nights tried to emulate it.. and failed .. never f*ck with a good formula.
The whole goth fest is on the 19th july (this sunday) priced £15, at the Embassy Club in London, seems to be a good idea to go.. especially to see specimen live. all info below.

I only have one .. just one quibble.. why ohh did alien sex fiend not reform for this. See you all there!

Right where to start with this wonderful band? I found them by accident on myspace, and was completely blown away by them.
This song reminds me of Nancy Sinatra, on some clean Ketamine,
or Captain Beefheart, on a happy day..
I have such high regard for young bands that embrace the music, as if they have invented it, not trying to be anyone else, just themselves..
I could go on and on about this band.. but it would all end up as smiley faced avatars.. have a good listen to this.. and marvel at the sheer audacity to make a completely "neo cowboy movie 1930's stomper.. within an original soundtrack via an avant garde concept that john wayne would have tripped out on" .........without taking themselves tooo seriously..
this is one to watch and follow.. see their myspace page here

Andrea from the band mailed me this morning, with a short burst of news:

"Gobuzli have been together for eight months and are working on their first album, Abstract Origami Black Belts"

album?? i cannot wait.

here is the description for the video from their myspace:

Through the lampshades of your grandma’s dead consciousness, like a traffic policeman on fire (or valium), screamed by the radio of of a jellyfish-taxi, sunk to the bottom of the sea, made unclear by a telegram from the rotting corpse of an echidna.

Long time associate and good friend, Diego from FARMACIA sent me a nice email and lots of links for some of their videos yesterday.
I first met Diego thru myspace about 2 years ago through the musical offshoot FOLK which incidently I really love.
Eventually via mutual admiration of each others work, I done a remix for them (under my artist name 23creative) for the single "Nada de Nada" as also did bryin Dall. From PTV fame and thee majesty. His mix is the third video.

FARMACIA hail from Buenos Aires, and have quite a following there, I follow their work with much interest, and they have made some remarkable work.. various releases are availible, inc, a track on the brand new "some bizzare sampler vol 2" I really love these guys, and doing the remix was soo much fun, Bryin's is very upbeat, and really sinister.. woohay!.
mine was very spaced out .. and very stoner, wonky!.
anyway!! links abound for them in this text, check em out!!

videos and 23creative remix below.

FARMACIA - Nada de Nada (23creative wobbly mix)

O.CHILDREN - Dead Disco Dancer

I nearly did not post this because: (1)they sounded like "The Horrors" and (2) They kinda look silly. But after a few listens I am hooked! they have a myspace page here

He is back, and what a great tune, If you have not heard any of Vitalic's stuff before, check out "Ok Cowboy"
He has done various mixes and DJ sets the last few years, this is such a smasher of a song, I nearly wee wee'd myself.

Great video from The Presets. I just adore this band.

Those that know me, know that I am a huge fan ov Psychic tv, and Throbbing Gristle.
But, to be honest I preferred PTV, when they was more confrontational, basically during their pagan .. era (1982 - 1988).
PTV3 (as they are known now).. are more ov a pastiche ov psychedelic garage bands, which some people love.. i find it a bit too wishy washy.

So here is why I am interested in what he has to say about it here. Personally I do like hearing him talk more, nowadays, rather than listen to the new stuff.. I presume I will post more PTV/TG and Genesis p Orridge stuff when I feel the need. Anyway this is a nice interview.. and a little touching.. when Lady Jaye is mentioned, as he is visibly upset.
And for some really odd .. tabloid reason.. his website went wild with awful comments, because he/she . kept on touring as PTV3.. me thinks people just dont get the concept ov life and death. Shame really because he is the most clever (ist) ov man i have ever listened to.

This is very interesting to me as the whole Russian art "scene"
has exploded over the last five or six years,
but the majority that was being seen/sold, was from from early 20th century pieces, that, in practice, is hard to regulate, because a lot of artists went
underground, for mainly political reasons. So documentation, and verification was really scarce. This led to a lot of fakes being circulated to the auction houses,
and galleries; Therefore, undermining the whole movement of art history that was seen
mainly in London, and New York City. (it is still happening, on a massive scale today).
In this video they show some great modern Russian artists, and I think some good pieces. Sadly the exhibition is now over. So here is some highlights.

Quite funny video i found on current.tv , this woman has rhythm.

Dandi Wind is one of those performers, that I think, makes music fun. Below is a video for Powerball, taken from the album "YOLK OF THE GOLDEN EGG". I first heard of Dandi Wind last year, with the tune "Safety Dance" and yes it is better than the "men in hats" original (in my humble opinion).

Video and download below, you gotta play "Saftey Dance" loud.. it is a requirement.

Just a reminder

If I have included any downloads on this blog it will have
a player that you can either stream, or click the divshare logo on the player, to be then taken to the download page. (a link will be shown for the download
This is the wonderful Bertrand Burgalat - Spring isn't fair,
was played almost daily for a while.. but rediscovered it today again.
such a nice video.. enjoy :)

For all those of you that are unfamiliar with the dreammachine,
it is a cylinder, with precisely placed cut outs, on the cylinder
that spin on a motor (or an old turntable, at 45rpm)
with a light in the middle.
The desired effect is to listen to music,
and sit in front of it , with your eyes closed,
it then taps into the alpha waves of your brain,
causing visuals. There are lots of websites out there

listed after the video. The inventor was Brion Gysin,
a beat poet, and mystic experimenter,
also a very interesting fellow,
his automatic paintings are also worth a look.

WARNING!! CONTAINS MALE SEXUAL NUDITY!!!

If you have never heard of Bruce La Bruce then you may not know
of his amazing works that have shocked, and amazed the public, and critics
alike, in the underground art world.
I find his work compelling, and actually very funny, with a cheeky
political slant.
There are some great movies he made, inc; "the raspberry reich",
"Skin Flick", "No Skin Off My Ass"
and the wonderful, "Hustler White", and "Otto, or up with dead people".
The images he makes are very very powerful, and plays on male sexuality, brutality, and love.
There is a thin line between pornography and art,
but all is amazing to watch, vivid colours and arresting images against a metropolitan, bored and somewhat "world weary" landscape.
As you can tell I am a huge fan.

This video is a quite low/but ok quality silent hand held camera view of his last exhibition, it includes film stills.. and new works...
delve in and have a look!

you can pop over to :
http://www.brucelabruce.com/
to have a look at his other work.

This is a great stop motion advert for the new Olympus Pen E-P1.
I am not into blogging adverts at all, but this is just beautiful.
But!! I must admit I would love the camera

This is a nice youtube clip of a band called Duke Special - "sweet sweet kisses"
all I know is that they are from Ireland,
and i find it quite the summer song that is going to be on my mp3 player.

This is a great track from the band El Garrotin,
this gem is called smash.. and it is eeer.. "Smashing"
thanks to donnaslut.com for this mp3.
below is the link for the track to download..
and also a very smeary youtube clip.
